European Markets Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR) is a set of European legislation regulating over-the-counter derivatives transactions and related obligations by market participants and financial service providers.  The objective of the legislation is to reduce systemic counterparty and operational risk and help prevent future financial system collapses.
